Global Recycling Day

Today is Global Recycling Day so what better way than to dedicate a blog post to help spread the message.

Here at Flaww we are passionate about being earth conscious and doing our bit for the environment, as well as giving flawed products a chance to serve their intended purpose and avoid landfill, we also offer a wide range of eco-friendly products all packaged in recycled or recyclable packaging.

"Every year, the Earth yields billions of tons of natural resources and at some point, in the not too distant future, it will run out. That’s why we must think again about what we throw away – seeing not waste, but opportunity.

Global Recycling Day is here to help recognise, and celebrate, the importance recycling plays in preserving our precious primary resources and securing the future of our planet. It is a day for the world to come together and put the planet first."*Source Global Recycling Day

Reducing what you waste is a great way to reduce your impact on the environment.

Below are some top tips on what you can try;

Thoughtful Food Shopping

- Take stock of what you already have - check your cupboards, fridge and freezer and make a meal plan using up these items.

- Write a list before you hit the shops with what you need.

- Don't be tempted by that magic middle aisle - if you know, you know!

- Only make use of BOGOF offers if you can use them / store them within the use by dates.

- Take reusable bags to pack your items - run out of bags? You can also use cardboard boxes or storage boxes you already own.

- Use up left overs for lunches or to add to other meals another day.

Make Do And Mend

When you think something is on it's last legs, see if it can be re used or repurposed in other ways.

Fancy a change? That's fine, why not see if someone else can make use of your old items - you could sell to make some money back or pass them on for free, now doesn't that feel good?

Reuse

Reuse what you have before buying new, we all love swooning over those Insta worthy larders and pantry photos, you know the ones with colour coordinated beans and pulses in expensive looking storage jars and containers? But how many used glass jars do you throw out each week? These can be washed and reused to store dried foods, even kept in the fridge with leftovers and taken out and about to work / play for lunch on the go.

Buy Preloved

Thankfully the stigma of buying second-hand is a thing of the past. Save money and the planet buy buying preloved where possible.

"Each year the ‘Seventh Resource’ (recyclables) saves over 700 million tonnes in CO2 emissions and this is projected to increase to 1 billion tons by 2030. There is no doubt recycling is on the front line in the war to save the future of our planet and humanity."
